The City Hall said it had happened because the ovens in the cemetery are broken.
A breakdown in the ovens at a Sevilla cemetery has meant that coffins are being burnt in the open air. Some 12 to 14 coffins which are exhumed daily were being set alight on open ground in the cemetery.
The matter at the San Fernando Cemetery has been brought to the public’s attention by the Partido Popular in the town, which has provided photographic evidence. Local residents had already complained about the ‘intense smell’.
The City Hall issued a statement said that it was because the ovens were broken, but they had now issued an order to stop the practice.
