Analogue to digital for Spanish telly

I heard somewhere that the analogue signal is to be turned off at some point, as in the UK. I don't want satellite for the few weeks we spend over there, just the basic Spanish channels, so can I just fit a set-top box? Thanks in advance for any information....

If you have a new digital type arial ( not a dish) then you can just buy a digibox for around €30, however be careful, although the quality is excellent, it depends on where you are as to what signal you receive.

Because I am in a valley, with the digibox, I have gone down from eight to two spanish channels, so make some enquiries first. It may be worth looking at your local ads, for a secondhand spanish dish, they are not difficult to install if you are patient.

The switch over from analogue to digital is being rolled out between now and April 2010 - if you have recently fitted a TDT box or have a new integrated tv and you are only receiving a couple of digital channels don't panic as it may be the transmitter you are receiving from hasn't yet rolled out their full digital service yet. At the moment the Parapanda transmitter that covers Granada is transmitting the full digital content (approx 26 channels). However if you cannot receive from this transmitter and are pointing at say the Sierra de Lugar one then they are only transmitting Canal Sur & Canal Sur 2 at the moment but should be coming on line with the full content by Dec 2009 or April 2010. Until the analogue signal is turned off they cannot boost the digital signal, so if you get break up on any digital channels at the moment then this will disappear once the analogue signal stops and they then boost the digital signal.
