Anybody recommend an open fire expert in the Cadiar area? I have a very large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner that is costing me a small fortune in wood to keep warm. I need a more efficient fire and a new chimney.

Muleman

The wood burning stoves are usually much, much more efficient than open fires as the entire external area, and the metal chimney acts as a very effetcive conducting radiator. Stone surrounds and chimneys on open fires are far less efficient, and also take far longer to heat up.

Shame because open fires really are the most beautiful things. As to your question - I'm afraid I don't know anyone.

Good luck, Bill

I second that emotion.

I have yet to find a fireplace that has been built with any other objective than to heat the outside of your house.

On the other hand the stoves here work a treat. Have you considered getting an impressive and attractive stove and putting it in your fire place?

OK. We've decided that open fires are out and stoves are the future. Where is the best place to shop for them ?

I'm afraid I didn't like any of the stoves in the Berja shop. Anyone got any other suggestions ? Granada perhaps ?

Thanks

Do you still need a fire installer as I know a specialist in the area?

See my posting. I am a qualified installer of solid fuel stoves and appliances with an understanding of how chimneys and fires work. I have learnt a lot in my 3 years here about how the chimneys here function best to get the most heat out of the least amount of fuel. See "Services offered".
