Luminous Jackets

Am I missing something. Why has everyone started carrying luminous jackets in their cars ? Shoud I ?

There was a recent change in the law ( June or July this year I think ) which says that all cars ( not sure about motobikes ) must carry a relective jacket in case of breakdown, and must wear it if they get out of the car after a breakdown. I'm not sure if you are supposed to have one per passenger as well ( doubt it ). The jackets are about €5 in any of the big supermarkets - I bought ours in Al Campo, Motril.
