Solar electricity for fridges

This is sent on behalf of some desperate friends who would like an answer to the following question:

Why can you not run an electric Bosch fridge off soloar electricity. This is mentioned in the appliance instruction book. It is an A* rated fridge.

Try searching on the Internet for "modified sine wave inverter" or "pure sine wave inverter". Some appliances do not like the type of electricity many cheaper inverters ( DC to AC converters ) generate, usually those that have electronic components. The Bosch frige is probably a clever one !
